Kimi Raikkonen - Formula One World Champion!!

Ferrari! Ferrari! Ferrari! Ferrari! Ferrari! Ferrari! Ferrari! Ferrari! Ferrari! Ferrari! Ferrari! Ferrari! Ferrari! Ferrari! Ferrari! Ferrari! Ferrari! Ferrari!

I couldn't even sit down for the last 15 laps! Kimi Raikkonen was the rank outsider to win the championship lying 7 pionts behind series leader, Lewis Hamilton and 4 points behind Fernando Alonso. Kimi needed to win, with Alonso 3rd and Hamilton outside the top six. With the year Hamilton has had, pretty much no one, especially, the British media thought he couldn't fail. But his luck ran out and he lost 30 seconds when his car developed a glitch, dropping him to 18th place. He recovered to 7th place by the flag, a lap adrift, but it was not enough though. Alonso never looked like beating the Ferraris finishing over 30 seconds behind them.

Therefore Kimi took the win and the Championship.
Kimi Raikkonen 110 points - 6 wins
Fernando Alonso 109 points - 4 wins
Lewis Hamilton 109 points - 4 wins

Ferrari! Ferrari! Ferrari! Ferrari! Ferrari! Ferrari! Ferrari! Ferrari! Ferrari! Ferrari! Ferrari! Ferrari! Ferrari! Ferrari! Ferrari! Ferrari! Ferrari! Ferrari!

The boy's done good! / The long haul

First off, a very big well done and congratulations to Lewis Hamilton for his maiden Formula 1 win. It a was remarkable win considering his immediate and arguably more skilled rivals all goofed up so much so the it was also the 1st podium this year not monopolised by Ferrari or McLaren. Even better, Lewis is British and will definitely win the World Championship; if not this year, then very, very soon. He is 8 points clear at the top of the Championship and has yet to finish outside the top 3, again something his own team mate and current World Champion has failed to do.

Keep it up my son! (N.B He is also the very first black Formula 1 winner!)

Unfortunately my love of motor racing wore heavy yesterday as there were 5 different disciplines on which meant 7 hours of tv (I had to pass on the last one which would have made it 9 hours!)

First up was the DTM (German touring cars), that started at 1pm.

Followed smartly by the Australian V8s (Australian touring cars). Luckily it was only race one, as race 2 and 3 take place today. [11/6]

I had an hour's gap before the Formula 1 started...

..and showing at the exact same time was the Indy Racing League (America's version of F1, but mostly on oval tracks). Which I then watched on recording once the F1 was over.

Lastly the Champ Cars (another American version of F1, but this time mostly on regular race tracks), but this started at 9pm and I really had enough of cars by then. Still, I've got it recorded!

'I'm BACK, but...'

That's right. Squish is back in the house!
Where have I been?
Well for most of last week I was out and had little time on me computer and this week, well that's another story.

To catch up I'll have to bullet point recent events.

- Had a night out in Colchester with Gregg. Had a late dinner in a Thai eatery then hit a club with an 'older' crowd. Me and Gregg watched bemused in the corner feeling 100 years younger than the folks around us!

- Won £34 on The Grand National. I picked the winner, Silver Birch, by tossing a coin onto the newspaper that all the runners were listed in and selecting the one my coin landed on. Skills!

- Watched Danny Boyle's movie; Sunshine. This movie was far better than I imagined, and captured the cold loneliness of space far better than many other space operas. 2 thumbs up!

- The Ferraris come 1st and 3rd in Bahrain with Alonso trailing home 5th. A satisfactory result for me. Aye.

- Played badminton singles with John and Martin and got my ass thoroughly kicked. Teaches me for skipping out the week before.

- I finally got to see my sis, Sarah when she invited me out to one of her mate's birthday drinks in the Valentine Pub. It was so good to see her again. Love ya sis. Mwah!

- Checked out the Tate Modern. Hadn't been there for a while, but there was nothing standout there this time and I had miss the 'slide' installation as well.

Lazy day off.

I had planned to go to the gym today as has become my routine but I woke up with no energy what so ever, so it became a laundry and rest day.

Yesterday I got my new phone as a free upgrade; an LG Shine. As an O2 Select customer I'm entitled to my upgrades every 9 months. My last 4 phones have all been Sony Erissons so it feels more than a little alien to use a different phone, but I've had a chance today to play around an get use to it.

I often get accused of not having enough national pride whenever England play football, well as I don't like the game anyway watching 90 minutes of it, England or not, seems dull. However my chest did swell on Sunday when England won its first A1 grand prix race. Oliver Jarvis in only his second appearance for the team came 2nd in the first race of the day, then went one better and won the 2nd. Almost two years in the making but worth the wait. Top marks also to Brit Dan Wheldon, who won the IRL season opener for the third year in a row. Sweet!

And finally, all I know is that Akon better take his hands off of Jojo otherwise he will be the one getting 'smacked across the floor'!
(just kidding Akon)

TV manic!

I was a big time TV fiend on Sunday having to watch about 7 hours of shows saved on my Sky+. Had to clear some space. My favorite shows are; Ugly Betty, The West Wing, ER, Blade: The Series, Heroes, 24, Futurama, Grand Designs, Prison Break, Daybreak and Father Ted, with House MD joining the pack on it's 3rd season debut last Thursday.

The reason for such a feast? - My love of motor racing!

Formula One is not the only motor sport I follow. Oh no. The Indy Racing League (IRL) started its year Saturday and the Australian V8s 2nd round took place too, AND A1 Grand Prix had it's 9th round; meaning I needed lots of space on me Sky+ hard drive. Bad news is I also watch British Touring Cars (BTCC), World Touring Cars (WTCC), German Touring Cars (DTM), World Rally Cars (WRC) and Champ Car World Series!! Phew!

Football sucks! Motorsport rules!

A lil bit of this, a lil bit of that..

What a weekend it could of been. What with Red Nose day on Friday; St Patrick's Day on Saturday and Mother's Day on Sunday - If you mom was a fund raising Irish comedian she would of been on a 3 day bender!

Sunday was the 1st F1 Grand Prix of the year, and I woke up at 2am Saturday night to watch it. Thankfully it was a good race, the Ferrari won and Alonso got beat. Hopefully those two events will happen every race weekend, and that will make me a very happy bunny! If you've had an eye on the British press of media only one thing happened race weekend; Lewis Hamilton came 3rd. You'd have to look, real hard, to read anywhere that Kimi Raikkonen won, for the first time in over a year, and on his debut in a new car for a new team!

Last night I stayed back late at work to type up and print out my sledgehammer of a letter to Sky. I sent one letter to the complaints department and another to the Managing Director. The little people have no power.

Today, my day off, I visited the gym again. I'm back in the swing and the crowds have dwindled from the New Year fitness fads. Feels good to be back. I also had a lovely sauna a steam, and guess what was in the changing rooms....

sweaty pants!

Let the race begin

It is with great excitement that this weekend I welcome back my most favourite of motor sport disciplines; the pinnacle, Formula 1.
It has been a long off season as always but then with the new year comes the new car launches, then the pre season testing which drip feeds you back into the full racing season.

Sadly my most favourite driver, Micheal Schumacher retired from the sport last year so I don't really have anyone to cheer on this year. I will still, however, cheer on the scarlet Ferraris, as my favourite team. Also any driver that stuffs it to current World Champion, Fernando Alonso, gets my vote! (I can't stand him. Grr!)

I wish good things on my fellow Brits; Jenson Button, David Coulthard, Anthony Davidson and Lewis Hamilton, but will definitely miss dancing around my room and 'whooping' like a looney every time Schumacher won! 14 years of dancing!

The first Grand Prix of the year starts in Australia and I will be getting up at 2.30 am to watch the qualifying then again the next night, to watch the race! Happy days!

Can't actually remember where I got the photo. Think it was from the Honda racing site, but thanks to the original poster.

Gentlemen. Start your engines.

How do? On the Wednesday evening just passed, I blew out the guys and badminton night for some go-cart racing with some of the company's financial advisors. I got lost on the way down. Or more correctly, I knew where I was but could not find where I had to go! Nevertheless, I arrived just in time and suited up in overalls, helmet and gloves. There was 18 us in total and would get 4 races each, with a final for the best 10. I qualified 2nd for the final with a win, a 2nd place and two 3rd place finishes from a random starting spot each time. (One of my 3rd places was from last spot on the grid! Yay me!) I came 5th in the final after 11 laps in torrential rain, it ended up being less about speed and more about control. The less you spun, the higher you finished. We was all soaked through and covered in grim at the end of the night, but had fun all the same :-)

Bitter sweet

Good and bad news today in my beloved motor sport world today. Michael Schumacher announced his retirement from active racing in Formula One, after 15 years in the premier category. He done so after winning the Monza grand prix. His 90th F1 win. A pretty sad day. Almost as sad as the day that Ayton Senna died. However he did win the race to move within 2 points of series leader Fernando Alonso (whom I can't stand), so 'good one'!

Also, in the IRL (the US's top open-wheel series) Brit, Dan Wheldon won the season finale, (to my great enjoyment); ending the season tied on top spot in points with Sam Hornish Jr. Unfortunately due to a count back on wins, Sam won the championship after taking 4 wins to Dan's 2 over the season. Bastard!

'Schumi, we'll miss you! Dan, better luck next year!'
