The bat cometh

I am so excited about The Dark Knight movie that I am drooling like a new born baby about to suckle on a nipple. Heck, I'm drooling like I do at the thought of sucking on a nipple!

I can assure you that no one was as upset as me to learn that the inevitable sequel to 2005s Batman Begins would not be coming out till 2008! That was 3 years away! I can tell you that I uttered lots of naughty words. So many, in fact, that I've already booked my afterlife ticket to Hell.

2008 is now here, and The Dark Knight opens July 25th here in the UK (July 18th, one week earlier in the US), and 'watch out' the person who gets in my way of seeing it opening weekend!

If the mooted 3rd in the new franchised series does not feature director/writer, Chris Nolan; and Christian Bale, then I will be saying a lot more naughty words, especially if they say it will be another 3 years before it hits a movie theatre. That's 2011 people!

The 'Hairspray' and 'The Ivy'

Exactly 2 weeks ago my office had its Christmas do. As we had won a bit of extra money for our performance this year, we decided to do something a little bit extra. We agreed on a restaurant, and choose The Ivy, and then wanted to back it up with a show. Alan, Sharon and Melissa had all seen the recent movie Hairspray and really wanted to see the stage show; I didn't need much persuading.

All 4 of us were working that day so some careful juggling had to take place so that all the company cars were at home come 6pm. A quick change into our snazzy threads then the tube to the theatre for a 7.30 start. I absolutely loved the show. It is set in the 60s, and I was totally thrilled with the era, the music and the outfits; by the curtain fall I was buzzing and saying to myself that this had been the best piece of entertainment I had ever seen!



From the theatre we had an 11pm dinner at the Ivy. I guess due to the high celebrity count I was told I was not allowed to take photographs. With that and the 'no camera' policy of the theatre I was left with a nigh on redundant camera! Grr.



Once I got home I ordered the DVD of Hairspray.

Knocked up in the O2

I really wanted to see the movie 'Knocked Up' after seeing some really positive reviews around town, a successfully rounded up a small troop to come with me to see it: Sarah, had heard of it but didn't really fancy it. Channa, again, had heard of the film but didn't mind seeing it. Mel, er... she said yes straight away.




I got my choice my venue too. I had been longing to see a movie at the Vue O2 for a while, and my suggestion of going there met no objection. Two for two! I did strike out on mode of transport though. After sorting out meeting times to catch the tube to the Dome, Channa chipped in the she wanted to drive as she hated tube travel. I was unsuccessful of changing her mind. So a quick reshuffle we needed.

We arrived deliberately early to check out a few of the bars but I ended up getting a bite to eat in a Frankie and Benny's whilst the girls all went straight to dessert!




I think everyone enjoyed the film but I had to turn away from the screen toward the end of the movie and the 'crowning' scene! It re enforced my wish never to have kids, and if it does happen, to be down the pub at the birth and nowhere near the horror that is child birth!

How Squish (is trying) to get his groove back

One I've learnt this past week is that when you've spent almost 2 weeks lazing about laying on the beach and sipping on fruit punch, it's difficult to get back into regular life; you know the standard 9 to 5 (or 6 in my case). I've only just managed to squeak into work on time each day, thank God that the schools are on their summer break, making the roads quieter, because that's been my saving grace right now.

It hasn't taken me that long however to get back into staying up past midnight for no particular reason, usually falling asleep about 1am while watching one of my tv show box sets; House, Married with Children or the Animaniacs. And I wonder why I'm always so tired in the morning!

I returned to my Body Pump class and badminton on Wednesday, which feel great to be exercising again but I did ache Thursday and Friday which mean I must of hit the right spot!

And finally I attempted to watch Brokeback Mountain on Friday evening. It was on Sky, had won 3 Oscars, and I was aware that it was a love story between two cowboys. I gave it a go. I managed to get past the first sex scene as it was just short scene, mostly fumbling but moments later when it looked like the two guys where about to kiss I had to bail out! I'm not homophobic, but watching guys kiss! Not for me!

More than meets the eye

Well I'm back from my holiday to Barbados! It was fun. I went with my mom and had a really laid back and relaxing time. Different to any holiday I've had before, but still enjoyable. But to keep things in a chronological order I need to go back. Back two Friday's ago, and the last Friday of July.



I got to see a movie that quite frankly had me drooling ever since I'd heard of its existence 'Transformers'. Directed by Michael Bay, a director with an eye for high energy action (Bad Boys I/II, Armageddon, The Rock, The Island) and I was expecting great things. However I left the movie theatre slight disappointed thinking it was not Michael's best work, but with hindsight I've warmed to the film, looking equally forward to its 2 sequels, (when they arrive!)

Now, only 11 months to wait for my next pant wetting movie event; The Dark Knight

Robots in disguise

I eagerly await the arrival of the Transformers movie. It's out next month in the States and I hope the UK release is not too far behind. The trailers have looked totally thrilling and Micheal Bay always turns out entertaining movies. I've found an UHQ photo of Optimus Prime which has whetted my appetite further. 'I'm BACK, but...'

That's right. Squish is back in the house!
Where have I been?
Well for most of last week I was out and had little time on me computer and this week, well that's another story.

To catch up I'll have to bullet point recent events.

- Had a night out in Colchester with Gregg. Had a late dinner in a Thai eatery then hit a club with an 'older' crowd. Me and Gregg watched bemused in the corner feeling 100 years younger than the folks around us!

- Won £34 on The Grand National. I picked the winner, Silver Birch, by tossing a coin onto the newspaper that all the runners were listed in and selecting the one my coin landed on. Skills!

- Watched Danny Boyle's movie; Sunshine. This movie was far better than I imagined, and captured the cold loneliness of space far better than many other space operas. 2 thumbs up!

- The Ferraris come 1st and 3rd in Bahrain with Alonso trailing home 5th. A satisfactory result for me. Aye.

- Played badminton singles with John and Martin and got my ass thoroughly kicked. Teaches me for skipping out the week before.

- I finally got to see my sis, Sarah when she invited me out to one of her mate's birthday drinks in the Valentine Pub. It was so good to see her again. Love ya sis. Mwah!

- Checked out the Tate Modern. Hadn't been there for a while, but there was nothing standout there this time and I had miss the 'slide' installation as well.

Stop the presses!!
Because I now have a new favourite movie.
300.

This film is amazing and has now edged out Batman Returns, Sin City and Memento as my top pick. The film is based on the graphic novel, by Frank Miller which is in turn based on the 1962 film, The 300 Spartans. The movie tells the story of an actual event that took place 480 BC, The Battle of Thermopylae. I'm sure reality and the movie bare little in common other than names, however its a thoroughly entertaining film and I for one can't wait for the DVD to come out so I can see it again. And remember; "THIS IS SPARTA!"

Wall-e

Look at this cute little guy. This is me last night when I was told there was no more dinner left.. Nah! Just kidding. Though I know it fooled some of you; the same eyes and cute expression. This is actually Wall-e, the lead character in Pixar Animation's film after next, due summer 2008.

Though I know very little about the guy, I know that we are kindred spirits with the same characteristics.

First movie tears

On Sunday I watched the very 1st film which made me cry. Yup, actually cry.

I wasn't Ghost or Watership Down; or Bambi, E.T. or Old Yeller: or even United 93.
It was Rocky II!

I know!!

I've never been a big Rocky fan, but with the sixth film out and with good reviews; it was on my list of movies to watch. As luck would have it Sky had decided to show all 5 previous movies this weekend and I caught the first 2. Not to give too much away, Rocky fights the same opponent, Apollo Creed, in both films. In the 1st one he loses on points, but in the 2nd he wins with a last round knockout.
Rocky's joy at becoming World Champ and his dedication to his wife, Adrian, warmed me little heart and a single tear slid down me cheek as the credits rolled.

So there it is. Rocky II.

Games, booze and movies

First off, if you guys have a couple of minutes spare, check out the two games on me links bar; Penguin Arcade and Scribble ->. They're like online flash games. The only cost is your bandwidth. A mildly diverting gift to all my blog fans.

Well I managed to get out of the house this weekend, the 4 walls driving me crazy, and spent me time with two beautiful people; namely Gregg and Louise. (Now pay attention 007. I know 2 Greggs: One with 1 'G', Pimp Daddy Blanc, just had his 21st. And one with 2 'G's, long time best pal and fellow Capricorn)

With Gregg, it was Saturday night in Shorditch. Probably now considered our regular. We visited a few bars and tried one in particular call Flava, but it was guest list only. I think I upset Gregg that night though, as he wanted to stay out and book a hotel room and worry about getting home in the morning. But as I'm in pauper mode I poo-pooed his idea, catching the last train home and leaving him to his own devices!

Sunday, I had Louise for company and we watched the movie 'Tenacious D In The Pick Of Destiny'. Now I have to admit this was not my choice of film, and would not have made it into my list at all, but it was actually thoroughly entertaining and totally enjoyable. I'm glad I saw it! Thanx Lou!

Borat and cactus
Jagshemash! On Sunday I watched the moviefilm 'Borat!: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan' with the gorgeous Louise. We went to the Enfield Cineworld and was aiming for the 7.30 showing but there was so much traffic on the way there on the A406 that we actually arrived too late and had to catch the next showing at 8.45. The moviefilm itself is one of the funniest films I've ever seen. If you like your Borat and Sacha Baron Cohen's style of humiliation set ups, plus a bit of slapstick you will like it, if not, then you wont. Wa wa wi wa!

On Monday my copy of 'The High Road' arrived. Every track on Jojo's 2nd album is well cool and it's gonna be my driving music for a good while! "Its just too little too late..."

It's been a bit of a frustrating week so far at work. My job involves a lot of phonecalls, both incoming and outgoing, but I just don't understand how anyone can have a mobile phone and never ever answer it. I've currently got 3 vendor/applicants that I've not reached in 4 working days despite leaving them at least 4 messages a day! If you can't ever have the phone on or answer it; don't have one! The whole idea of mobile phones is to be reached when you're not near a fixed line! Its always in your pocket! Grrrr! Rant over!
