The face reading conman

Yesterday I got swindled out of £5, which at the time I thought I was lucky to have, but in hindsight it should have been nothing. Read on for the story....

I had popped out for lunch when I was approached by a guy saying to me that I was very lucky and that he was a face and palm reader and wanted just a few moments of my time. Being an open person I was prepared to give him a few moments plus I was intrigued by what he had said so far. We took a seat and he began by telling me I had a very kind heart and was a respectful person, a bit unlucky in love and was terrible with holding onto money. So far he was not too far out so I continued to listen; He said after July, money worries will ease and 2008 will be a very good year all round in money, love and health!

He then withdrew a small zipped folder with photos and drawings of, I guess, religious figures, prophets and Gods (he was of Asian descent, but I know not from which country), and asked me to put money in between the photos. I reached for a couple of pounds but he said I had to be paper money. After a little protesting I went for a £5 in my wallet but he told me to insert the £20 he had seen in my wallet. I did so warily but now my 'spidey sense' was in full affect. He continued on telling me about my relationships with family members and my lucky numbers, flowers and dates. Then he asked me to put more 'paper' in between the Gods.

This time I refused. He told me that it was to help with the reading; the money was being blessed whilst between the photos and images. I inserted a 2nd £20 note but now all the while badgering him how I was not happy about him holding onto £40 of my money. He seemed incredulous saying that my generosity was being blessed and that was a good thing. I told him point blank that I was not going to let him keep the £40, not for any reason! He reluctantly gave me back the money, and I offered him £5 for his time (which at the time I thought was a bloody good deal), he took the money and I bade him farewell. As I walked off he called out if he could at least have the £10 as well (the last remaining note in my wallet. I had £55 altogether). I said no and walked on.

Only now do feel mugged. At the time I felt relieved that the whole episode ONLY cost me £5! That will teach me to talk to strangers!

I am in two minds about this story/experience mr squish.. firstly, it was very dangerous of you to allow a perfect stranger to hold 40 of your hard earned english pounds! not wise at all! but the second says that it was only £5 (luckily!) and its only money! (you probably would have only gone and spent it on sweeties anyway!) i highly recommend a book called 'Yes Man' by Danny Wallace if you have not already read it.. as someone who knows you pretty well, i say it is right up your street and will seriously change your life...

I had someone do this to me when i was younger, they kept showing me all these pictures of people abroad who were starving and needed help and all that, he asked for money. Being young and impressionable i was unwilling to fight him so instead insisted he gave me the details of a reputable charitable organisation that deals with such things. He eventually gave up, i think nowadays i would mug them. They take money off of people, you squish gave him a fiver, imagine some old woman who was weak and couldnt say no, she might end up giving him half her pension or more. Its a liberty. Curse them. Blessing the money, ill bless your face with my knuckles, theiving mug.
